I wouldn’t recommend that you give Any animal ANY over the counter drugs without first talking to a vet. It could kill your dog.

Question by InTheDesert: how to become a dog therapist?
You know water therapy? For dogs with arthritis or just out of surgery.
How do you become a dog therapist? Being a vet tech or assistant? Or do you need to specialize in it?
Thanks for any help!

Of course if you get vet training that help you to be able to claim to be one if you decide to work as one.

Question by sparky: Dog owners who have pets taking Deramaxx for arthritis, what kind of blood work does your dog have?
my 171/2 year old lab has been taking Deramaxx for 6 weeks prior he was taking Remadyl for 4 weeks he has a vet appt this week.they are doing blood work for his liver but being on deramaxx now shouldnt that include kidney test also?
Best answer:
Answer by Pamela P
what the will do is a general health panel that will test all their kidney, liver, heart and everything else.
they will also do a complete blood count to make sure that her white cells and platlets show that everything is working fine.
They willdraw around 5-10 cc of blood depending on what vet you take your dog to.
I used to do them all the time.

Question by ckrunhard: My dog is suffering from arthritis. She’s around 10 and a shepherd/lab mix. What should I do?
I’ve read some websites, and there are a lot of opinions! Some recommend Rx meds, but warn of possible dire side effects to the liver and kidneys. Can I just give her aspirin (5-10 mg/lb)? Does liquid glucosamine work? Her dry Nutro contains this already.

The only safe ONLY safe meds that can be given to dogger for pain is baby asperin…83 mg…That’s it…Anything stronger and you need to see the vet…Pleeeease don’t even think about acetomenophen (tylenol) or ibuprophen…you’ll destroy her liver..

Question by Jimmy B: Anybody know what I can do to help relieve the pain of arthritis for my dog until I can get to the vet?
Can anyone give me any tips on how to help stop the pain my dogs having from arthritis? She’s an eight year old jack Russell terrier and was diagnosed with arthritis in her hips last year. The vet suggested a few supplements which we gave her for a while but then stopped. She has seemed okay until recently and today she’s in the worst shape ever. She won’t lie down and she’s shaking and crying and if i touch he too quickly she whines. The vet’s are closed today but we’re making an appointment tomorrow. Also i gave her some milk which she usually loves but she vomited it all up as soon as i gave it to her.
Thanks.
“Bonnie L” my nearest 24 hour vet is three hours away and also i do not have a car. If you’re going to be a fucking bitch please try to at least know what you’re talking about first before you start running your mouth.

Question by momof2: Do you have (or know someone who has) Ankylosing Spondilitis, or severe arthritis and has a service dog?
Do you have a dog that aids you in your mobility? How has he/she helped you the most? What are things that the dog does that helps you out the most? What kind of harness do you use?
Best answer:
Answer by Kirsten R
I have degenerative joint disease of the subtalar joint. It’s not the primary reason I use a service dog, because I also have a traumatic brain injury.
I don’t recommend using a service dog in place of a cane. It’s very hard on their bodies and they wind up with arthritis themselves. However, my dog does help me get back on my feet when I’ve fallen.
For arthritis of the spine, I think a dog that retrieves items from the floor and hands them to you would be a great help. A trained dog could also help with undressing by pulling off socks and other garments without you having to bend so much.

I DO NOT want to put her down as she Is Family, & has a lot of years in her, but i have tried Doggie glucosamine, Hip & Joint supplements, & i don’t know what else to use. i have used Doggie aspirin. She does not look sore all the time, only when she has to get up or move to a different place to lay down, once she gets moving outside however, she rolls around playing like a big horse. what can i do for her hips, & her weight? her dr ( vet ) just said cut down her food to less then a cup a day, I cant do that. she needs to eat & she is a Lab, not a Yorkie. Please help, my baby needs this

Consult your vet for meds. that will ease her pain. You could also try acupuncture or acupressure which has done wonders for my older guy without having to use any drugs.
If possible swimming is a great exercise for her with no stress to her joints.

I have had over 10 dogs in my life and none of them have ever had a problem with being vaccinated for rabies. Any side effects are rumors. It’s the law when you have a dog.
