most of those drugs seem to be pain medication tho im not sure what Clonazapam is….anywho it sounds to me like your nerve endings are misfiring. when you turn your head do you turn it quick or slow? Is the pain a sharp quick pain or is it a slow pain?
You might want to go to a nerve doctor (if you havent already gone) in stead of a doctor at the hospital…sometimes they can actually give you exercises to do.
The pain may be cause because of the artheritus or it may be a torn nerve. Either case try to stay active as long as you can.

Question by Jessica: What caused my dog to die?
My 11 year old lab just died a few hours ago. She had been suffering from severe arthritis in her hips for a while now. At the vet today they said she might have a tumor in her spleen and that she has stones in her bladder (again). They gave her some medication to help her deal with the pain and we were going to have to go back soon and probably have them put her down. She seemed to be feeling somewhat better tonight, but then she laid down and her eyes rolled behind her head. She was breathing heavy and then suddenly stopped. A few minutes later she started breathing again and her eyes were dilated and you could tell she was struggling. We tried to comfort her (there wasn’t much else we could do!) and eventually her breathing slowed down and she passed away. It’s really bothering me that I don’t know what happened to her! Was it a heart attack? Stroke? Seizure? If you have any ideas let me know… thanks!

If your on a tight budget your vet should understand, buffered aspirin is a much cheaper solution than the prescribed pain pills and your dog will forgive your situation as long as you love her.
Let them know you are on a tight budget but will do what you can, if it is a good vet they will offer an alternative without making you feel guilty about it.

Question by Tessa: dog limping for a couple of months now?
When it first started he would only limp occasionally, and then walk on it like it was fine the rest of the time. It almost seemed like an act after awhile. He would be fine all day and then someone would come over and he would start limping again. But now it has gotten to the point where he doesn’t walk on it at all, and whines during the night. He has been to the vet multiple times now, and all they have done is given him some pain medication and said to switch his diet since it might be a “food allergy” they said it takes a month to see if putting him on a diet would help, but it hasn’t. and the odd thing is they hardly looked at his paw/leg whatsoever.
its like he treats his leg like dead weight, he always has it bent funny and it almost looks like its slightly swollen?
it makes me feel bad that it’s not getting any better!
so we are taking him to a different vet this week.
but does anyone have any ideas what it could be?
maybe arthritis, a sprain, or something?
thanks !!!
thanks so much everyone!
he is a springer spaniel, around 8 years old.
he is not over weight but he has slowed down quite a bit these last couple of years.
they thought it could be an allergy because he chews on his feet occasionally, and doesn’t like when you touch his paw.
so there could be something in it. he gets up from laying down funny like he doesn’t want to put any pressure on it, and its hard for him to jump on the couch and stuff (which could just be the fact that he only has one front leg to work with). But it looks like the front and hind leg on the opposite side of the injured one shake when he stands, maybe since he doesn’t want to put weight on his paw?
but yes one thing is for , i’m definitely taking him to a new vet.

Question by Katherine: How do I ease my dog’s pain?
My samoyed was diagnosed with arthritis about a year ago in her knee. She could hardly sit down. It got better with pain medication, but now it’s gotten the worst it’s ever been. Her knee is extremely swollen, three times the size of her other knee.
She used to sleep on the bed with me, but she can’t get up on the bed now. She can hardly get up if she is lying/sitting down and she needs help getting up the stairs.
She just turned seven and other than this she is very healthy. We can’t afford surgery or anything more drastic than pain medication. Is there another way to help her? It breaks my heart every time she stands up.
I am NOT putting her to sleep. That it completely OUT OF THE QUESTION.
Best answer:
Answer by BYBs kill dogs and puppies
you need to be advised by your vet it sounds like surgery is the only option she is also suffering as well you need to look at her quality of life maybe the vet can suggest something else but you need to speak to your vet again

Yes take him to the vet and let the vet give you some medication that will help manage the pain he is feeling. With proper pain management, your dog will be back to normal in no time.

Question by Kassi: How do I know if this is Dog Neglect?
I just got a dog over the weekend. I paid $ 20 for her. She is 10 years old and a dalmation. She is so sweet but looked like she was in bad shape. We took her to the vet today and she has a skin condition and has a very bad infection under her skin where she broke it open and it wasn’t taken care of right. He also said that she is under weight and that she pulled a tendon in each of her back legs a while ago and i could have been fixed with surgery but it never was and now she has leg problems. He said because it wasn’t fixed she nw has a very bad case of arthritis in her back legs and it cant be fixed! I had to get her 2 different medications and some other things. Her toe nails were also very long and deformed and they had to trim them and it was painful for her. I don’t have a lot of money and i didn’t know she was going to cost me this much. I would like to press charges on the woman i got her from but I’m not sure if this would be grounds enough to press charges on her. I want her to pay for what she hasn’t done for this dog. do i have enough stuff to press charges? Is this even in the range of neglect?
I got her over the weekend and the woman was getting rid of her because her husband had developed allergies to her. I did take pictures of her. The vet said that the woman didn’t take very good care of her and she should have been treated a long time ago. He said the extent of her problem probably means she has been this way fo quite some time.

Question by NumNut: Should I bring my dog when I move out?
hi, i am finally moving out of my parents’ house, and the only thing i’m worried about leaving is my dog. he’s been in our family for 12 years, sleeps in my bed every night. i really want to bring him with me, even though i can only afford a small apartment. his general lifestyle right now is that i take care of all his vet visits, medications, food, etc… my parents just feed him & let him out during the day while i’m at work.
my parents are against me taking him since then he’ll be alone for 8 hours, 5 days a week. & he won’t have the fenced-in yard that he’s used to. my side of it is that now that he’s older, he basically just sleeps til i get home anyway, and he’s starting to get arthritis so he really doesn’t need to run around like crazy anymore.
so do you think he’ll be better off staying at home with my parents, or coming with me? personally, i feel like he’ll be better off with me, but maybe i’m not seeing the big picture. at least i’ll be walking him every day (something my parents do very rarely). not sure how the feeding schedule will work though. any thoughts/input/experiences? do you think my dog will miss them too much? or be happy enough with just me?

Question by lindsay k: Please help me answer my question about my dog?
Hi, my name is Lindsay and I am the proud owner of a 14 year old beagle. He was recently put on Enalapril for a heart murmur. My problem is that he was also on tramadol for his arthritis and now he is extremely lethargic, seemingly due to this medication. The reaction is so severe that I would like to stop giving him his enalapril, but I can’t find anything saying whether or not I have to weak him off or I can just stop giving it to him. My vet is closed for the day, can anyone help me please? I’m so worried an so desperate.

Question by 00000000: how can my 6 year old chihuahua get arthritis? can i stop it?
Yesterday my baby Mini, was having noticeable trouble walking around and cannot walk up the stairs. So i quickly brought her to the vet this morning. I thought it was because she fell down the stairs yesterday, however my vet took an xray and it showed that she had arthritis. He told me it was really rare in young and small dogs. But Mini was unfortunate. I think she was diagnosed early though because he said only 3 of her spinal joints were connected and 2 were about to so he gave me pain medication and glucosamine supplement called ubavet plus. I was just wondering if this is something life threatening and if i can do anything to stop it from progressing or anything. Des this mean she won’t live until she’s 15? or older? What should i do to help her heal?! I know the ones connected are irreversible but what about the ones about to connect or hasnt. Will the supplement really help me a lot?! she’s only six! and she’s my everything! please help!

Chihuahuas are known to have hip problems, knee problems, and shoulder problems. They often have problems with compression of the spinal cord. I would definitely give your pup a supplement to keep her from being in too much pain. Aid her when she needs to go up stairs as it may put extra pressure on her spine. Sometimes a doggy massage (basically just massage her by her major joints such as her spine, knees, and shoulders) can help them feel better. No this is not a death sentence as long as you nurture her and keep her moving. You wouldn’t want anymore of her joints locking as it may limit her mobility further.
Hope this helps and good luck!
