i had to make the decision to put my five and a half year dog down. took her to the vets the week before and they told me she had really dysplacia and arthritis in wich they put her on tablets. soon after she would start screaming and go all rigid so i phoned the vets and they said she would get worse before she got better and then again she had a bad turn when i got no sleep the next night because she was screaming and i was trying to console her the next morning i took her straight to the vet and they said there is nothing wrong with her…..she had another bad turn on the fri and i had the physio come see her on the sat and she got a bit better but then mon this week she couldnt get up wouldnt dink anything and was just not with it. i called the vet yesterday and told them i want them to come out and see her i cant just leave her like that…they came out and said they r sorry they didnt realise how bad she is and she should be put down cos they think she has a brain tumour
how could they have let my poor girl suffer like that by just not listening to me when i kept on telling them something is wrong and then to add to all my pain i dont know what she died of and i feel really bad that no one would help me whil she was suffering i am really torn apart

I am sorry for you. It is so hard when you loose a pet. My dog is 13 and I expect we will have to make the same decision soon. It just breaks my heart. Like loosing a child. Just try to be grateful that she is out of pain now.

I am SO sorry !! this is one of the worst things a pet lover must suffer. Not knowing, and then, having to make such a decision. My little mutt has a incurable disease, and I thought she was dying, it tore my heart out. Thankfully our vet knew right away what was wrong, and she is now on medication that will improver her life. She went from mostly dead, dying actually, back to her happy self. I have had to put down a few of my pets, due to old age, one had a tumor and an aneurysm. It broke my heart. I am so so sorry you had watch her suffer. Talk about it to anyone who will listen, grieve for her, keep her in your heart, put up her happy pictures. Cry, it all helps.
im really sorry you had to lose you dog. Your dog probably showed all the signs of hip dyspacia and they figured that you as a concerned owner were more sensitive to what she was going through. My dog was the same way when we had to put her down, one day she just stopped moving all together and we knew it was time, of course the pills came out two months later, but just know that shes not in pain anymore and that you did everything you could
Went thru just about the same thing. Did not know for sure what was wrong. It would have cost an astronomical amount of money to find out.
I am sure you did the best thing.

Hey…I’m sorry for your loss…but putting her down was the best thing. I had to put down my 6 year old german shepherd who had cancer…he lost his ability to relieve himself and when he screamed once I knew it was time. Very sad but as they say “All dogs go to heaven”. I still miss my dog but I’m glad I did it when I did it.
Awe sweetheart I am SO sorry for you loss. I had to have my 6 month old puppy put down because my neighbors poisoned her. Broke my heart and was the worst and hardest things I have ever had to do. It truly does suck and I feel deeply for you. But in hindsight know that she is sitting at the gates of the rainbow bridge

i had my cockapoo for 16 years and one day i woke up and the basement had blood everywhere. we couldnt figure it out because we had taken her the day before to the vet for her annual checkup and he told us she was in perfect health. we called the vet and told him about the blood and he told us ” oh i guess i better tell you she has boul cancer and her entire stomache has been eaten away” we had to put her down that day. i know where you are coming from that was 12 years ago and i still cry to this day. i will never ever forgive that vet and you just dont get over it. the best advise i can give you is dont forget the dog but try to live with the pain inside your heart
Sorry to hear of your loss. Having gone through it two years ago when our lab had cancer, I feel some of your pain. Our situation unfoleded like this:
He went from a going on a 4 mile walk on Thursday, showing no outward signs of a problem to not being able to stand up on the following Wednesday. This was the result of a cancer which had metastisized long before any outward symptoms were shown. Once the symptoms appeared, it only took a few days and his body just shut down.
While I understand that you are upset, I also feel you are looking to place blame on your vet. You said they let your poor girl suffer and wouldn’t listen to you — but they provided medication to help revieve the pain. They were also correct to state that there is a period between when you administer medication and when it takes effect that must be accounted for as part of the diagnostic process. Your timeline of how things unfolded even state that there was a period when she started to show signs of improvement.
I’m not trying to come down on you by any means – you have just gone through one of the most difficult situations life will present to you. But I really don’t think you are being fair to your vet. I am certain that your vet tried to do their best given the circumstances. Unlike a human, the vet cannot talk to the animal to learn of all of the symptoms. They tried their best to treat for the symptoms that were presented. Adding to that is knowing that most pets behave much differently at home than at the vets office – I can easily understand why they took the course of action they took and don’t think they did anything out of the ordinary. They will do all that they can to keep you and your pet together, and yes, sometimes they make a mistake and just get it wrong for all the right reasons. Just please take a moment & try to look at it from their perspective.
In closing, I hope you can find peace knowing that your dog is better off now. You shared with her 5+1/2 years of companionship and care — something no one can take awy from you. I also hope that, in time, your pain lessens and that you can remember the good times you had with your dog.

I’m sorry to hear about that. I know how it feels to part with a dog. But the vet part, what were they playing at? I’d never go to that vets again in a lifetime!
I’m sooo sorry. I’ve got to put down our dog tomorrow and was looking around here for some comfort, guidance, and insight. I’m sure it’s the best decision in the long run so she won’t have the pain and suffering. She’ll always be with you.
