Question by bballchick915: I want a second dog!! read the whole thing please!!?
I already have one dog but she has hip dysplasia. I cant play rough with her or take her for walks. She is a golden retriever and gets along with all types of animals(ecsepically my hamster) I was to get a newfoundland because my dad likes to hike! I just read about Seaman (Lewis and Clark’s dog) in history class and i know that they are good dogs!
Can you help me find some ways to persuade my parents? i will also take suggestions on what kind of dog i should consider too.
My parents are against this in a way, but i bet if i have some good reasons then they will reconsider!!
PLEASE HELP!!!

You are the only one that knows your parents and you are the one that wants the dog. But have you considered your lab may get jealous or depressed If you get another dog. Bedcause he can’t play any more? If you get another dog your lab could get very depressed and even die from it. Are you going to push the lab out because you got a new puppy? You didn’t say how old your dog is and how long he will live. May be you could wait awhile. And think about it some more.

If it is super urgent, ask them about it and then remind them about it every now and then until they give in. If you have plenty of time, ask them if for your Birthday/X-mas gift you can get a certificate from them saying that you can have a second dog.
I think your idea to get a newfoundland would work well with your situation. Make sure that you and your family is okay with the drooling.

Do you live at home with your parents? If so, then you are out of luck. It’s their house, so you must obey by their rules. Enjoy your Golden Retriever for as long as you can, make the most out of everyday with her; you won’t know what you have until it’s gone.

newfies are great dogs but you can’t play rough with them till there full grown ! do some research on this breed if your prepared for drool and ready to give up your couch then this is the breed for you. lots of brushing too.
very very loveable dogs
good luck
