If you have plenty of time, ask them if for your Birthday/X-mas gift you can get a certificate from them saying that you can have a second dog. I think your idea to get a newfoundland would work well with your situation. Make sure that you and your family is okay with the drooling. But have you considered your lab may get jealous or depressed If you get another dog. Bedcause he can't play any more? If you get another dog your lab could get very depressed and even die from it. Are you going to push the lab out because you got a new puppy? You didn't say how old your dog is and how long he will live. May be you could wait awhile. And think about it some more.
