Q&A: Can you tell if my dog is dying?
Question by annie g: Can you tell if my dog is dying?
Okay, its gotten worse. She refuses to eat, but she will gladly eat people food. We don’t give her the human food because its bad for her. And last night she was just frantically walking in circles barking for no reason. I had already let her go to the bathroom so i don’t know wat was wrong with her. She has severe arthritis and it is very hard to get up the stairs. She barks at everything and nothing at all. She has severe Alzheimer’s also so it seems like she’s going crazy. She is a 14 year old retired guide dog, and has done many good deeds, so is it time for me to do her a good deed? If you know if that good deed is to put her down, or not. Please help me. If you need to ask questions, i will add on and answer them. Please help me find my answer.
she goes to the bathroom in the house like right after she goes outside. She tells me things with her eyes (yes i sound crazy) shes blind and deaf. But she seems so lost. i dont know wat to do.

Your vet is the only one that can help you make an informed decision as to whether or not there are options to improve her quality of life or whether it may be time to say goodbye if she will no longer be able to live a happy and full life. It’s a hard decision to make, but I am sure that whatever conclusion that you and your vet come to will be the right one for you.
deciding on when to put a dog down is a tough decision. but you have to weigh the dog’s quality of life. if they are not able to enjoy the things they once enjoyed then it might be time. but that is a decision you will ultimately need to make. good luck to you! =D
Sorry to hear that.
She’s deff. not dying, but just to make sure bring her to a veterinarian or animal doc. just to be sure
poor dog
i am not a vet but i don`t think so i think its just the alzheimers setting in so she probably is going crazy and as for the food thing my cat was doing the same thing until i switched to science diet and now he won`t eat anything but that any questions email me at mikesimmons87@yahoo.com
Please dont put her down.. I had a dog for 10 years, and she died from a tumor on her head.. You will miss her dearly, and you would probably feel horrible.. Let her live her last days in comfort… Take care of her, give her what she wants.. She is obviously stubborn, she will eat dog food if she gets hungry enough, give her soft food… Please I miss my little dog everyday, and would love to have her back… If you love her as much as i loved mine then keep her as long as you can.
Well if she been a 14 year old guide dog i would say to her goodbye i dont meanto be mean but she is old thats what old dogs do. srry
They way I look at it is if my dog is still eating and not in any pain and can still go potty outside then it is not ready to be put to sleep. But if my dog was in pain and suffering in any way and I know in my heart that putting it to sleep would be the best for my loving pet then I would do the human thing .Hope this helps so sorry.
just give her dog food and sorry to say but dogs don’t live as long as cat usally and if u think she is dyeing, take her to the vet
yeah im really sorry
i know how u feel
it’s okay to feed her scrambled eggs
and my dog is 11 and does the entire barking thing, but she is okay. i would ask the vet though to get an answer about putting her down.
I had a dog for 17 years, which unusual for the breed, he stopped eating and I fed him raw diet for awhile and he stopped eating that then I tried Merrick’s can food and he loved it and ate it until he had to be put down from a stroke. You will feel confident when it’s the right time, talk to your vet and if every time you look at your dog it makes you think Oh poor dog I need to put her down then it’s probably time to schedule it. It’s never easy, but you can be strong enough to do the right thing when your ready. 14 is a really old age for a dog, is she happy or distressed, those questions will help you decide. Good luck.
cook her some chcken and rice and feed her donty let her die case you dont wanna feed her ppl food dont put her down plzzzzzzz dont end her life till its her time
Read these poems I think it says it all
I am sorry but do what’s best
PUT ME TO REST
Time to let me go my friend,
Because my life no-one can mend,
Its better to let me go this way,
Than watch me suffer night and day.
I’m happy to go, my time has come,
My quality of life is no longer fun,
Ive been so ill, so its not a bad thing,
To let me go forever resting.
Stay with me till I drift away,
Fast asleep forever I pray,
To relieve me from suffering and pain,
What more can I ask from my best friend.
Don’t be sad, I’ll be free from pain,
Never to be ill ever again,
I know you’ll miss me being there,
But all the memories you have to share.
Thankyou for being my best friend,
And all my needs that you did tend,
Try not to be sad, try not to cry,
Now’s the time to say GOODBYE
MAY I GO NOW
May I go Now?
Do you think the time is right?
May I say good-bye to pain filled days
and endless lonely nights?
I’ve lived my life and done my best,
an example tried to be.
So can I take that step beyond
and set my spirit free?
I didn’t want to go at first.
I fought with all my might.
But something seems to draw me now
to a warm and loving light.
I want to go.
I really do.
It’s difficult to stay.
But I will try as best I can
to live just one more day.
To give you time to care for me
and share your love and fears.
I know you’re sad and afraid,
because I see your tears.
I’ll not be far,
I promise that,
and hope you’ll always know
that my spirit will be close to you,
wherever you may go.
Thank you so for loving me.
You know I love you too,
that’s why it’s hard to say good-bye
and end this life with you.
So hold me now, just one more time
and let me hear you say,
because you care so much for me,
you’ll let me go today.
It is a myth that people food is bad for dogs. On the contrary, most DOG food is bad for dogs. If she isn’t eating, ask your vet what foods could be cooked for her at home. An older dog may do well with cooked rice mixed with cooked ground turkey. If she is walking is circles and barking at nothing, she may be scared….she could be going blind or deaf. Again, a consultation with the vet is in order. If she is in pain, there are pain meds to consider. Do NOT agree to give your older dog Rimadyl! It will most likely kill her (but many vets still push the drug).
I am not opposed to euthanasia. However, make sure it is the right time and you’ve done all you can do for your faithful companion before going that route.
You could also try hydrotherapy (swimming), special beds for dogs with arthritis, acupuncture, massage therapy.
Also, do some research and find a good doog food supplement.
