Update…Dog lethargic, goes up steps slow…?

Question by Karen A: Update…Dog lethargic, goes up steps slow…?
For those that responded, thank you so much. My little Shih Tzu was seen that day. Definate arthritis problems. Vet put her on a Rimadyl treatment and by morning she was moving around like her old self. Thanks you all again.

Does my dog have arthritis? It comes and goes…?

Question by Chelsey: Does my dog have arthritis? It comes and goes…?
I have a dog who is approximately 8 years old (she was a rescue from the pound so I’m not exactly sure how old she was when I got her but she was supposedly about 2.) She’s a Husky mix. Over the past few months, I’ve noticed she’s been favoring one of her back legs. She holds it up sometimes when she’s walking like it hurts her paw or maybe even her hip. However, if she’s been out running and playing for a while, its like she forgets her leg hurts and she’s just fine. Its only when she sits or lays down for a while and then walks on it that it seems to hurt her. Could she have arthritis or is she even old enough to have that?
Thanks!
also if it is arthritis, does anyone know of any supplements that will make her leg less stiff?

If you’re concerned about senior dog health, you’re probably concerned about dog arthritis. It’s a condition which plagues the older dog population more than any other. Mind you, arthritis is not unknown even in quite young dogs. It’s just less common.

And it can be both treated and prevented, naturally.

The following is my summary of an informative article written by J. R. Rogers – “Arthritis in Family Pets”, with my own commentary included here and there, based on my own knowledge, and information gathered from various sources which I acknowledge at

Question by Julie D.: OK guys, I never ask any stupid questions, so here goes?
Since I know there are sooooo many stupid questions here everyday, I thought I’d join in. Keep in mind, this question is ONLY to lighten things up a bit and to see what kind of off the wall answers happen to come in. (I think I’m allowed to troll ONCE in 3 years, right?….and most of you should know that I’m NOT a troll) OK folks……What would I get if I decided to bread my NUDERED female ENGLISH Bulldog with Hip Dysplasia, to my male SPADE Cavalier King Lhasa poo? Ready, set, GO-and be creative!

Just in case….What tool do you use to do your dog’s nails?
Add: Lucy….ya think? Really?
Add: Jerome, I think there are a couple of things you didn’t pick up on.
Add: You guys are great. I think my computer is about to blow up! Launi…..started drinkin a little early today? jk

Question by DeltaJuliet: When to put dog that eats, recognizes, and goes outside to sleep?
Our 13 year old Golden Retriever has weak hind legs (hip dysplasia) and sometimes barks when he’s lying in the kitchen which has hardwood flooring. Our family is under a lot of stress lately and this issue just adds to the pile. My mom thinks it’s close to that time, but I think otherwise. Our dog hasn’t peed/pooped inside in years and holds it for hours when we’re gone. He also still wags his tail when someone comes home and still eats his food. I’m just wondering if other people put their pets down when they are like this.
Finally people who agree with me! I’ve been told I’m kind of in denial, but I know it’s just not right to put him down now. I couldn’t imagine living after knowing he was put down while still in a decent condition. Thanks for everyone’s input.
We’ve been caring for him his whole life. He has been taking Rimadyl and glucosamine chondroitin for the last year or so. We also have had carpet runners on the floor so that he won’t slip around. We’ve even built him a wheelchair ramp to go outside. I think my mom was just freaking out like she usually does. Thanks for all the replies though. Now I don’t feel like an idiot.

Why would you put down a dog that is not suffering or sick?
