Question by Amanda: Hydrotherapy?
For any of you that don’t already know, my dog has luxating patellas. She raised her one of her back legs last night on our walk, which her vet told me would be the first indication that her knees were causing her pain.
She is slightly overweight, and for the past few weeks I have decreased her intake and increased her exercise. I would greatly prefer to hold off on her surgery until after mid-March, as her pet insurance needs to be in affect for a year before they will partially cover that particular surgery.
I have put a call in to her vet, but she is off today. Basically, I am wondering if hydrotherapy would be a better option than constant romps at the dog park and lengthy walks for her knees.
A place in my area has an underwater treadmill, and I know hydrotherapy is recommended often for dogs with arthritis. I would like the get the extra weight off without causing more damage to her knees than how her condition would naturally progress.
Bob: She has been on Cosequin (glucosamine supplement) since around August when she was diagnosed. The vet told me to give her one a day for the rest of her life.

Answer by ♥Golden gal♥ I would think it would be a wonderful thing for her. Water will take much of her weight off her joints allowing her to get the excersise she needs with out the stress on her joints.

Question by madeinaugust82: Hydrotherapy for dogs in Southern california close to LA?
Does anyone know a hydrotherapy or wellness center for dogs. My aunts dog has hip dysplasia and before putting her to sleep we wanted to give this a try. She is an older dog about 13. I don’t want to put her through more pain and discomfort but if this helps I’ll be happy. We live in Ventura County so anywhere around here or LA is ok. I just want to find a good place. Thank you
