Question by Michael: How to leave yahoo because of their twice mistakenly deleting me from Yahoo!Mail?
This happened twice within two weeks. The first time they said I would never get my saved mail back but the techs quickly did. This time it is taking forever. I am 63 and have anxiety and panic attacks, along with degenerative arthritis and all this just exacerbates my problems, so I’ll leave my once favorite company for being treated like a dog.
Also, I never let more than a day or two go by without using yahoo mail and I Never asked to be deleted.

You go to your orthopedic vet, and get the appropriate medications. You do NOT ask total strangers on YA’s for advice.

Question by Gypsy Rose: What can we do about this? A little over year ago a family member asked if we would watch their elderly dog?
until they moved in to their new home. After they moved they said the place was too small to take her back since they already had 2 large dogs and if we could just keep her until they found some one else that could take her. Then they turned around and got another dog that was even bigger then her. Instead of helping us feed their dog, we have 2 others as well, they expect us to give them dog food. The worst is that their dog that we have is 13 YO has arthritis bad and some days she can hardly get around or eat, yelps when we pet her and she can’t control her bladder or bowels. When we talk to this relative about it she says that it is her dog and she will decide when it is time to put her to sleep but yet when she comes over she doesn’t pay any attention to the dog or even ask about her. Some days she will be agreeable to it and say if we think it is time then it is time but she expects us to pay for it which we just can’t afford then when we do get the money she goes back to “it’s my dog so i decide when it is time.” What can we do about this?

Easy it is your dog, she abandoned her.

You have taken care of her, housed her, fed her, loved her and I assume have taken her to the vet.

The family member is nothing but a irresponsible person who gave away her rights for anything and everything having to do with this poor old dog.

Personally I would write the family member off and take care of the dog to the best of my ability.

Question by Love’s Excelling Way: People giving their dog a swift tug on the leash, can’t that cause damage to the dog’s neck?
You know… like Cesar Milan does. He pulls the dog by the leash roughly. Now I’ve seen other people doing it constantly to their dogs. If you did that to a human, they would have tendon damage, muscle damage, and then develop arthritis. Can’t this be harmful to dogs? Even a little bit? I think it can.

It depends on the dog, the human and the collar on the dog.

Too many variables to answer the question.

Q&A: Has anyone used Petaprin for their dog?

Question by *: Has anyone used Petaprin for their dog?
My dog has severe arthritis that began due to obesity (about 5 years ago?) and is now elderly (15). She is having a very difficult time. She is taking 2 higher dosage of a steroid, as well as pain medication that she has been on for a long time now. Has anyone heard of Petaprin? Does this actually work? She is a beagle, and about 30 pounds. I know Petaprin was specifically developed for large dogs, but read it can help all size dogs. Is this a gimmick? Does anyone really know?

I am not familiar with petaprin but adequan injections would be worth a try. adequan helps rebuild cartilage in the joint and has worked wonders for painful arthritic dogs. ask your vet about it.

Does anyone feed their dog homemade dog food?

Question by Ewafv Dabgf: Does anyone feed their dog homemade dog food?
I am looking for advice and recipes from people who have experience making their own dog food.

I currently feed my dog Ceasers dog food. I don’t think it’s very healthy, but I’ve always fed her healthy food and she loves Ceasers and since she’s old now I figured, what the hell – I’ll give her what she likes for the last part of her life.
But now her health is fading and she is on a TON of medications and I am trying everything to keep her alive and kicking as long as possible and I am beginning to reconsider her dog food.

I love McDonalds, but once I stopped eating it and started shopping at the farmers market I began to feel so much better, so I’m hoping maybe I can improve and extend her life as well.

There are SO many conflicting stories out there. Chicken bones are ok if they’re cook because they’ll be soft / Chicken bones are bad if they’re cooked bc they can splinter etc….
I’ve done my research, but pretty much every video and website has a conflicting opinion.
I am not going to ask my vet’s opinion because they sell dog food – so I already know what they’ll say.
I will not give my dog raw meat so please don’t suggest that.
I heard that chicken necks can be good for their joints (she can’t take arthritis medication because it interferes with the other medications she takes) so that would be good… if it’s true. I don’t know because no one out there seems to agree with each other.

If you have any experience with homemade dog food I would really appreciate your opinion and advice.
Another thing I heard was that dogs can’t process vegetables, so if you are going to feed it to them, they have to be mashed in a food processor.
Can I just add mixed veggies from a can? They are already cut up into tiny pieces, do I really need to mash them?
tarielle – I tried to give her supplements for her joints but it made her throw up. The closest holistic vet is 4 hours away and you have to wait 2 weeks for an appointment, I’m trying to get there, but it’s not easy.
The long term affects of the pills don’t matter, I’ll be lucky if she lasts another year. I’m just trying to keep her as healthy as possible and maybe squeeze an extra month or two out of her. :(

B- I know there are lots of good natural dog foods out there, but none of them are available here. That’s why I’m thinking of making my own. I can’t imagine Ceasers has any beneficial ingredients. In fact, I worry about what unhealthy stuff might be in there.
Cookie – the link was broken
I went to the main website, but I couldn’t find any recipes. I clicked every link….

NEVER ever give your dog cooked chicken bones.
If you want to feed homemade food, as I do, cook chicken thighs with carrot and celery, or shin of beef likewise.

Question by hellokittylove: My parents want to put down our dog. Are their reasons behind this decision ethical?
Our dog is 14 years old, and the average lifespan of a Black Labrador is 10-12 years. Within the past year, she has lost most of her sight and hearing. She has arthritis in her legs and although we have pills, sometimes they aren’t strong enough and she can not stand up or walk up the stairs (since it started snowing, my parents have had to carry our dog up and down the porch stairs when she goes to the bathroom). The vet said the pills diminish any pain she feels in her legs which may sometimes make them numb. I love our dog, we’ve had her since I was 6 years old. We don’t play with her much anymore, considering my sister and I are older and the dog can’t really run or see well. My parents have been discussing putting her down, but I was wondering is that humane because she isn’t really in any pain? Are her other symptoms reason enough? I love her, and as much as I would like her to stay with us for as long as she can, is it more reasonable to put her to sleep or have her live out the rest of her life blind, deaf, and barely being able to walk? Please help!
*She has been on meds for about two years now, we keep refilling the prescriptions.

*Thanks for all of your sympathy and help

Answer by pinkwafer
Choosing to put an animal to sleep is always a hard decision. If your dog is really struggling to walk, then combined with her being deaf and blind, I would say she does not have a very good quality of life. I think it would be reasonable to euthanase under these circumstances, rather than waiting until her pain is uncontrollable.

Question by Angry: If a great pyrenees is shaved, is there a possibility that their coat will not come back?
I have always had my pyrenees groomed. Recently a new groomer at the place of which I will not name, decided he was to matted to be brushed and she shaved him. This was in August of this year. It is now November and all he has for a coat is a bunch of thin fuzz. I was so angry that they did this to him but I am concerned that his coat will not return. Be aware of groomers who do not want to make an effort. She shaved him because she didnt want to take the time to brush him. He is routinely groomed and there was no need to shave him. A good brush out and bath would have done the trick but she admitted she thought it would be faster, then corrected herself with easier to which things only became worse. Now I have a sweetheart of a dog that looks so hideous. He looks as he has the mange or something..I just want to know if it will ever come back. He is 9 years old with sever hip dysplasia. I am concerned that this may be his last year since his coat isnt there to help keep his hips warm from the cold. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

She could have injured that toe. Either badly bruised or broken.
Vet would be a good idea.
