Question by darwinsmonkey2000: OK My question is does D-3 Vitamin help a canine with diabetes ?
She is on 7 units of insulin twice a day. I don’t think there is a Vet here (KC) That has a clue. I just did the research & helped her with Omega fish oil for her arthritis The Vet was sceptical. But it is working. Also it is helping some people I know. Thank You for all the other answers I just forgot to mention the most important part,

Check out the groups section of yahoo, there are actually THREE yahoogroups lists for diabetic dog owners: Diabeticdogs Diabetic_dog and Caninediabetes. The first is the largest. I dont know which is best, but can testify that such support list can be a GODSEND. There is a much higher chance that someone on those list has the experience to answer your question.

YES it does help some – however, MSM and Glucosimine are also very beneficial. If you have a vet that examines your dog.. get a prescription for Rymadil. (sp) AMAZING STUFF – and its 1/2 the price if you get the presc. from pet med . com!

Is Magnesium Ascorbate Vitamin C ok for dogs?

Question by Downrock: Is Magnesium Ascorbate Vitamin C ok for dogs?
My dog has arthritis in her hind legs and I’m trying Freedom to move Recovery SA to see if helps at all. One thing that worries me though is that it contains Vitamin C in the form of Magnesium Ascorbate. I know Asorbic Acid type Vitamin C can cause problems for dogs kidneys and livers. Is Magnesium Ascorbate somehow different or does it cause the same problems?

The best place to find that kind of information would be the pharmacy at a major animal hospital. You can call them, and they should be able to tell you.

Glucosamine/chondroitin supplements usually are recommended for joint problems. Ask your vet about Adequan injections also. Getting him down in weight will help too, if he is overweight at 104. The leaner the better, for hips & joints.

Question by alegna: What is the best brand/company for Glucosamine vitamin?
My dog was diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia two months ago. The vet said it’s at a moderate stage, so I started her on glucosamine vitamins. (The vet bill just to perform x-rays and tests was tremendous!! almost one thousand. But that is the responsibility that comes with having a pet! ) I informed the vet that I purchased glucosamine vitamins them over the counter at the pet store, he didn’t offer any recommendations when I told him that I was giving her glucosamine vitamins.
So for the last two months, I have been giving my dog “NaturVet” Glucosamine DS Time Release with MSM and Chondrotin. I also supplement her with NuturVet multi-vitamins for adult dogs.

I was wondering if anyone knows what company or brand of vitamins are quality vitamins and work effectively for a pet.
My dog has been a lot better since I first noticed symptoms of her hip problem, she showed a lot of pain in the beginning, but now she seems fine other than that she can’t jump or play vigourously anymore.
She has Rimadyl when I feel that she is in pain.
Hopfully the glucosamine and vitamins that I give her slows down the hip dysplasia. I feel that it does, but who knows, miracles happen : )

Syn flex I have been giving my 18 year old cat syn flex for quite a long time. At one point before I started giving it to her she had arthritis so bad that she could barely move. It is good for cats and dogs and humans. Syn flex is a liquid and contains glucosamine, boswellin, shark cartilage, omega 3 and yucca. Its is a bit expensive but it lasts a long time.

Also I think Syn flex is good to prevent future problems.
