Your Opinion On Dog Beds?
Question by Tyra: Your Opinion On Dog Beds?
My dog is in need of a new bed (her’s is starting to flatten out). She is an 8 year old Golden Retriever, and she has mild hip dysplasia on one side. She loves to snuggle in and curl up when she sleeps, especially on the couch or my bed!! She also loves to sleep upside down on the floor while her legs lean against the side of the couch (it’s really funny) but never sleeps like that at night, only naps. She needs something that will support her as she gets a little older, but also something that will be comfortable for her to sleep in. I was thinking about getting her a slumber ball such as this one:

Do you think that is an appropriate choice?

Thank you Fonz, she’s my little girl!! I want what is best for her. ![]()
Thank you everyone for your input! I appreciate it!! Just so answer a few of your questions:
-The bed cover and liner is removeable for washing when needed, which is convenient.
-She also doesn’t have any chewing or incontinence problems, thankfully!
-The bed is designed as a wide flat cylinder, so that it will not roll. Also, it is designed so the dog will sing into it, creating walls around it to keep the dog comfy in the middle.
I’ve decided to get it for her, I’m sure she’ll love it, and maybe I’ll get my foot room back when I sleep!!
Thanks again!

That looks like a comfy bed!
Considering that she’s older, I’d actually consider looking at the orthopedics available on that website. She might actually end up having problems getting out of the bed you’ve linked to.
I didn’t went to your web link, but my opinion is that a typical round or rectangle dog bed is best. It would be good also if your dog doesn’t pee, poop, or even worse (perhaps) tear it apart.
Some dogs really love the balls, they like to “nest” in them. But honestly, all the dogs I’ve kept (a lot) tend to try for the dog beds with “egg crate” foam, especially the ones with orthopedic problems. So I’d go for one of those. She will thank you!
Here’s one of the F&S ones:

I would let her choose the bed. Go to Petco or pesmart and bring her there. Choose a few beds for her to sit on and see which one she likes the best!
The bed looks comfortable, however how can you wash it? My eight year old has one of those large cheap plastic beds. I bought a six inch piece of foam to line the base and she also has a duvet to lie on. I cover the duvet with cheap washable duvet covers and she has a huge pillow behind her. I can wash everything, it is cheap comfortable and hygienic.
I had a lab that had hip problem too. We ended up making her a bed with memory foam. But they sell them now! Pretty inexpensively too. Sam’s Club has them for sure! If you take good care of her, she’ll be around for a while. Good Luck!
looks comfy!
id sure love to sleep on that…
Try and get a bed that has sides. A bed that doesn’t have any walls to it can cause the dog to slid off the bed and be in an uncomforable position.
never mind your dog sleeping on that id rather sleep on it. it looks comfier than my bed. i know that you care a lot for your dog so i know that you will choose the right decision. but i would say go for it she will love it.
